Mule Deer Pack Load Out(Day Hunting)

There are always questions on social media on what someone packs for a day in the field.

Here in Wyoming a day trip can end up with you being a dozen or more miles from the trail head and covering steep ground.

Bellow is a list of my typical early season load out for day hunting.

Exo K3 1800 pack. Large frame with medium belt. Both K3 hip pouches added.

Nixon Leather Chest Rig with: Amazon special 5 round leather rifle cartridge pouch. FHF gear range finder pouch.

4 deer quarter game bags and 1 elk game bag.

Nomad Gortex top.

First aid kit.

Kill kit including gloves and sharpener and a 3.5” fixed blade knife.

Gerber Multi tool. Same one I carried in Iraq 2003.

Folding pocket knife.

Electronic hearing protection and extra foam plugs.

Carbon fiber tripod with bino shelf.

Assorted snacks and a bottle of water with electrolytes packet.

3L water bladder.

Glass cleaning wipes.

Head lamp and flashlight.

Tp and wet wipes.

100’ 550 Cord.

Garmin Inreach.

Go Pro and spare batteries.

Swavarski 10x binos.

Leica 2400 range finder.

Spare batteries as needed.

Leupold Gold ring 10-30 spotter.

Korth Mongoose 44 magnum. 200 Barnes XPB. 12 Rounds. Trijicon SRO.

Custom XP-100 308. 130 Cutting edge 5 Rounds. Trijicon Credo 3-9. Harris Bipod.

Cole Tac bitty bag.

And then all packed up. The pack is just over 50% full.

Not in the picture is the clothing. I have zero brand loyalty in clothing and pick what fits best.

I am using Stone Glacier pants, Stika long sleeve base layer shirt, Shelta hat, Darn Tough socks, and Crispi Boots with custom insoles. If the weather was a little cooler I’d add a Killik fleece and possibly a Stika puffy vest.

Hopefully this helps the aspiring western hunter have an idea for an early season load out. This load out would be my base and would just be added to for cooler temps or longer multi day trips with a 4800 K3 pack.
