Every year starting about now I get a flurry of hunting questions through the shop for Wyoming.
Where to apply, how to hunt, access to land, and “will you take me”.
I wil take people hunting under certain conditions:
- I am not a guide.
- I am not your momma, maid, or pack mule.
- If you hunt with me we are going to hike. I averaged 6 miles a day when I solo hunted last year and the longest day was 14.7 miles.
- I am a disabled vet with a laundry list of issues from lung damage to joint damage…..if you cry about soreness you will have to just tolerate me laughing at you and making fun of you. You better learn to embrace the suck….it’s going to suck when we add 60-100 lbs of meat to your pack.
- You will need points to draw decent zones in Wyoming….the zones you can just draw are not the best.
- You must hunt with a handgun or specialty pistol. Only special people such as my wife or Tom Collins get a pass there….and you need to be on your shooting A game.
If you can meet or exceed those 6 items on the check list I will help you out. I will help you find game….in 6 days of hunting last year I took 5 doe/cows and 2 bucks. Both bucks were respectable with the mule deer being very close to B&C.
I will help you pack out game….remember we would be in miles and you have to carry the meat out. If a truck can get there more than likely that’s not where I am hunting.
Gear is expensive and you will need good stuff to do this type of hunting. It’s not a place for bargain boots, optics, or other Chinese garbage.
It’s rewarding to get out on public land and smack a quality animal miles away from where the average hunter is willing to go.
I generally close the shop most of the month of October to hunt all over and for every species I can.
