I am sorry that I have been behind on updates about hunting season. Big game is just wrapping up for my household and small game is kicking into full swing.
I struck out on a sub 20 degree morning in the Black Hills of Wyoming and took down a mule deer with the Korth 44 mag and a 200 grain cutting edge a few weeks ago. A nice 50ish yard free hand shot with a very short recovery.
On an equally as cold morning I took my wife out to try and find a cow elk. We stalked around a field edge to a secluded pocket with the wind in our favor and found a small herd. She took a rest on a large rock and lined up a 50-60 yard shot on the cow with a 629 PC and a 200 grain cutting edge bullet and put it down for a dirt nap.
The herd hung around after her elk hit the ground so I picked out a calf to take. 60-70 yard free hand shot with the Korth 44 mag and a 200 cutting edge made quick work of the large deer sized calf.
A week or so later we then went out again for a quick morning hunt and Jess took a mule deer with a 6.5-284 xp100 and a 127 Barnes LRX at about 280 yards with a bang-flop.
With our freezers now full the 2023 big game season is a wrap. I’ll have a couple other hog hunts and exotics in the late winter to wrap up my mono metal write up. The terminal performance on the above critters will be covered then!

It looks like you guys are having an awesome season. We actually start tomorrow. The first guns out will be my 450 Marlin Encore and Skeeter Skelton’s 41 magnum Redhawk. I know we have 5 big mature whitetail bucks and we can take 2 each. Probably taking out 10 to 15 does. We give most of the does away. The bucks here taste more like beef and the meat yield per live weight ration is much higher. I didn’t get drawn for any out of state tags this year which is probably for the best as my time has become very limited. Wish us luck.
