Moon clips are almost required for speed shooting competitions with revolvers, they are also the weak link.  If a moon clip is even slightly bent or damaged it will negatively impact how the revolver cycles.

The Idea

A new company has a novel idea to carry moon clips and protect them at the same time.  The Moon Clip Carrier has designed, for lack of better words, a belt worn container that facilitates both robust storage and speedy reloads.

This is vastly different from leather and nylon pouches of years ago and more protected than race gun rigs.  Each Moon Clip Carrier holds multiple moon clips and the exact capacity varies based on cartridge length.

They make multiple models of the Moon Clip Carrier to accommodate your needs.  All models feature a spring loaded lid.  This allows for smooth access to the moon clip without having to physically open the container.  With a simple draw stroke you lift the moon clip through the lid and it snaps shut behind you.

This eliminates the unnecessary unsnapping of pouches from yesteryear and instantly retains the moon clips that still remain in the pouch.

Where does it fit?

If you compete with revolvers, you are well aware of the common moon clip racks we all use.  These take up your entire front of your belt to carry 6-10 moon clips.  This is a fast set up but it doesn’t lend itself to one shooting sport in particular, IDPA.

IDPA is the International Defensive Pistol Association.  Their matches attempt to simulate real world scenarios with a bit of shooting games mixed in.  At least that was the intent in the beginning; the sport has changed a good bit over the years.

Covering them up

Part of the rules requires that both your gun and ammo must be concealed at the start of a stage.  Most shooters wear a coat, vest, or oversized outer shirt to achieve this.  This requirement completely knocks out the standard moon clip racks.  Generally you have to carry 3-5 moon clip holders spaced pretty close together on your belt to achieve this.

Crowding belt space can make reloads more difficult.  I believe this is the opening for The Moon Clip Carrier.  Their product holds multiple moon clips in a vertical column which would occupy less belt space.  Thus it would be very easy to meet the rules of IDPA and maintain concealment for the competition.

The training advantage

There is an added benefit to all of your moon clips being in one spot, training and repetition.  You will be reaching for the same exact spot for each reload.  This could quite possibly be faster, and even more so when shooting from non typical positions often seen in the shooting sports.

The Moon Clip Carrier is a new idea to solve an old problem.  As the shooting sports continue to grow new inovation continues to amaze me.  Will it fit your competition shooting style?  Let us know!  Give The Moon Clip Carrier a try and see if they can up your game.
